Preparedness and Planning Scenarios and Exercises

The following scenarios can be used as a tool by the individual School Emergency Response Teams (SERT) to generate discussion, provide situational refreshment of procedures and plans, and to help develop action steps for additional preparedness planning.

Abduction

A scenario where a non-custodial parents removes his child from school without permission.

Active Shooter

A scenario that includes a student firing a gun in a classroom.

After Hours Call

A scenario that the phone rings twice after normal school hours.

Power Outage

A scenario that has an ice storm that creates a school situation where the power goes out and sending the children home is problematic.

Provides ten potential scenarios to consider.
